“Rio Olympian Greg Broderick and the six-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Santa Catalina, claimed the Horse Sport Ireland Mare Championship final at Cavan Equestrian Centre today (Sunday)

The Horse Sport Ireland Show Jumping Mare Championship aims to identify, evaluate and reward owners of mares that are capable of performing at the highest level in Show Jumping and are suitable for producing progeny that would be competitive at the highest level.

A prize fund of €15,000 was on offer for the Championship which was open to 5 and 6-year-old mares that are registered in a studbook that is a member of the WBFSH, or registered with Weatherbys.

Winning mare Santa Catalina, a six-year-old who is owned and bred by Paddy Quinlan, is by the sire Capitalist (HOLST) out of the dam Buenos Aires (ISH) who is by Ghareeb (TB).

Greg Broderick said afterwards, “I think this is a very good initiative from Horse Sport Ireland particularly for the breeders. There was really good prizemoney and fantastic facilities here in Cavan. It would encourage you to keep a mare in work later in the season with a class like this on offer.”

Runner-up spot went to Hilton Alibi (ISH), ridden by Leinster Junior rider, Sean Monaghan. Hilton Alibi was bred by Maureen McMahon and owned by Hilton Farm and is by the sire Pacino (BWP) out of the dam Hilton Hermlight (ISH) who is by Hermes De Reve (SF).

Third place went to Thomascourt Senna (ISH), ridden by Mervyn Clarke Jnr. By Mermus R (KWPN) out of the dam Playgirl (ISH) who is by Cruising (ISH), bred by Cynthia Beattie and owned by Mervyn Clarke Jnr. Castleroche Rebel (ISH), the only five-year-old in the top six, finished fourth with John Floody. By the sire Metropole (KWPN) out of the dam Castleroche Monica (ISH) who is by Clover Hill (ID), Castleroche Rebel (ISH) is owned and bred by Marie Quigley.

Fifth place went to Galwaybay Miss Uno (ISH), ridden by Michael Whyte. Galwaybay Miss Uno (ISH) is by Numero Uno (KWPN) out of the dam Untouchable R (BWP) who is by Darco (BWP), bred by Justin Burke and owned by Laura Burke . Sixth place went to Klanhugh Dreamland (ISH), ridden by Robert Harrison. Klanhugh Dreamland (ISH), owned and bred by Philip Reynolds, and is by Luidam (KWPN) out of the dam Klanhugh Kiltealy (ISH) who is by Kiltealy Spring (ISH).”
